Connection btw king kong n tt durai
Caught the long waited and much anticipated King Kong on Wednesday 21 Dec 2005. the much acclaimed director, Peter Jackson delivered on most counts as usual.

Pretty faces ( Naomi Watts and Adrien Brody), fantastic recreation of scenes and creatures. yes creatures and they certainly come in all sorts and shapes and sizes. From the t rexes to the gigantic moths or flies or watever u call it.

n not to forget the key role Andy Serkis played in portraying King Kong itself. its that guy who made 'my precious' famous. After Gollum and King Kong, r they any creatues or weirdos left to be represented on the silver screen??
maybe STB might employ him to be our Merlion??

i guess they were a couple of poignant scenes. The act of Jack Black taming KK with the aid of chlorofoam was to a symbol of the acts humans have been doing with much greater impact since the Industrial Revolution. The extent of mining or exploration has left very few areas untainted or uncontaminated by the prints left behind by us humans. Numerous lifeforms are under severe threat as well. Is it any wonder that the DMZ is teeming with wildlife as no humans can leave their mark behind.

Next was how Jack Black gradually turned to the 'dark side' so to speak. His passion and desire to create the ultimate film was slowly undermined by financial considerations and the whole illusion of fame. To be consumed totally by greed and its obesession is a sin in itself. To do so after having sacrificed 2 colleagues simply compounds matters. In his pursuit of fame, he actually puts the lives of many at risk. Ann was really a damsel in distress who was 'attracted' partly due to her recent hardships.

i think certain parallels could be drawn bte the director and durai. Both could have started off with lofty goals and ideals. Money could be secondary and not a prime incentive in their endeavours. However the quest for fame and money was distorted beyond their imagination. It was a irreversible change which was beyond many's imagination. i suppose it was a sub conscious effect on the parties themselves. day by day, avarice creeps in and corrupts the mind till that fateful day.

it is natural for the common folks to be indignant over durai's management style and his subsequent acts of folly. However, its still the helpless and needy that suffers. Those in 'power' might be brought to justice but the main issue is that the needy will be affected adversely by his acts.

really hope that the new NKF would win the trust of our nation again and avoid such mistakes. in the meantime, lets hope that durai gets the punishment he deserves (PP will have to do a lot of work i guess)

anyway, its coming to the end of 2005 i guess. Had been a really eventful year so far. maybe we could post our recaps of 2005 with mentions of significant events.
